LFRS staff recognised at national award ceremonies

At the end of November, staff attended the National Asian Fire Service Association (AFSA) Personal, Fair and Diverse Awards, held as part of the annual conference hosted this year by London Fire Brigade in Heathrow.

Paul Slee, Zoe Scott and Faz Patel won the Award for Addressing Health Inequalities in the Community for their work on the Regional Council of Mosques and Madrassa Water Safety Initiative. This campaign focused on delivering vital drowning prevention messages through culturally appropriate channels, including Imams, teachers and mosque WhatsApp groups. Through this approach, the initiative reached over 20,000 children and families and has since been shared with mosque councils across Greater Manchester, Bolton and West Yorkshire.

In addition, Steve Healey received the AFSA Servant Leader Listening Award, sponsored by the NFCC. This award celebrates leaders who put people first, listen with empathy and humility, and lead through service. It recognises senior leaders who inspire trust, confidence and positive change across their teams and communities.

During the same week, the Service was recognised at the NFCC Prevention Awards for the water safety initiative. The campaign was shortlisted in the Water Safety Award and the Partnership Working Award categories.

At the start of December, at the Excellence in Fire and Emergency Awards in London, Anji Hesketh, King’s Trust Team Leader at Preston Central won the Youth Champion of the Year Award

Chief Fire Officer Jon Charters said:

“I’m delighted to see our people recognised at national level—for leadership, for innovative prevention campaigns, and for outstanding youth support. These awards reflect the dedication, care and collaboration our staff bring to Lancashire every day. These achievements show leadership and prevention at its best—local, culturally aware and relentlessly focused on improving outcomes and saving lives.”

A huge congratulations to everyone who was recognised and thank you for continuing to represent Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service with pride.
