LFRS Working With Regional Fire Services
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is working together with fire and rescue services across the North West to improve fire safety in high-rise residential buildings.
One year ago (23 January 2023), the Fire Safety England Regulations came into effect and implemented the majority of the recommendations made by the Grenfell Tower Inquiry in its Phase 1 report.
Over the past 12 months, fire safety teams across the North West have worked with councils, housing associations and managing agents to support compliance with the new laws and keep residents safe. This has included sharing information through online events, developing leaflets that can be distributed to residents and producing guidance and templates to support fault reporting.
Group Manager for Protection, Ian Armistead says:
“Since the Grenfell Tower Tragedy, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) has been working with building owners and residents to ensure buildings in Lancashire are safe and those with fire safety responsibilities are always prioritising their resident’s safety.
“The Grenfell Tower Inquiry and independent review of building regulations and fire safety by Dame Judith Hackitt (building a safer future report) as seen the implementation of new legislation and LFRS has been regularly engaging and providing advice and support to those businesses with new or existing legal responsibilities for fire safety.
“Working collaboratively with other North West fire and rescue services, we have developed several educational videos to help assist our communities in better understanding new legislation and ensuring those with legal responsibilities for fire safety are compliant and proactively reviewing their fire risk assessments for suitability.
“Over the coming weeks all North West fire and rescue services will be sharing key messages on our social media platforms. Our LFRS business support webpage is available to provide a range of fire safety guidance and support.”
