We have a number of challenging targets for a range of key performance indicators (KPIs) which help us to monitor and measure our performance in achieving success and meeting our priorities.

KPIs are reported to the Combined Fire Authority’s Performance Committee each quarter via Measuring Progress reports and at the end of the year we produce an annual service report.

We also have local indicators which help us plan our resources, and monitor trends to establish whether action is needed to address changing risk.

In 2025, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services graded the service:

  • ‘Outstanding’ at understanding the risk of fire and other emergencies.

  • ‘Outstanding’ at protecting the public through fire regulation.

  • 'Outstanding' at responding to major and multi-agency incidents.

  • 'Outstanding' at making best use of resources.

  • 'Outstanding' at promoting the right values and culture.

  • 'Outstanding' at getting the right people with the right skills.

  • ‘Good’ at preventing fires and other risks.

  • 'Good' at responding to fires and other emergencies.

  • 'Good" at making the Fire and Rescue Service affordable now and in the future.

  • 'Good" at ensuring fairness and promoting diversity.

  • 'Good' at managing performance and developing leaders./
