Could you respond to emergencies near where you live or work? Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is now welcoming expressions of interest from those keen to join as on-call firefighters.
Recruitment opens on Monday 2 June until Friday 27 June, for training courses starting in November 2025.
On-call firefighters come from all walks of life – from parents and students to tradespeople and professionals. What they share is a commitment to serving their community. Working as an on-call firefighter means being part of a team that responds to emergency incidents, delivers community safety advice, and helps protect people across Lancashire.
In return, on-call firefighters receive a competitive retaining fee, full training and support, and the chance to earn additional pay for the time spent on incidents and training. The role is flexible enough to work around other jobs, education, school hours or family responsibilities.
You don’t need previous fire service experience or formal qualifications – just the motivation, a reasonable level of fitness, and the ability to get to your local fire station within five to eight minutes.
To be eligible, you must:
Be 18 or over
Live or work close to an on-call station (within five to eight minutes)
Be physically fit and have a good standard of eyesight and hearing (aided or unaided)
Be ready to commit time to training and emergency cover
Interested? Register your details online and a member of our On-call Support Team will contact you. They’ll explain what’s involved, confirm your eligibility, and guide you through the next steps – including information on fitness requirements and on-call pay.
