Register my Appliance Week is running from the 23rd-27th January. The Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances (AMDEA) promote this safety initiative to encourage consumers to register their domestic appliances with the manufacturer so that they do not miss out on any recalls or safety issues.
Due to the cost-of-living crisis, more people are considering buying second-hand large domestic appliances and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is urging householders to register all appliances, whether they are brand new or pre-loved or old.
A recent survey, conducted for AMDEA for Register My Appliance Week (23-27 January), showed a significant surge in people thinking about buying a second-hand large domestic appliance, during the current increasing cost-of-living. Now one in four (25%) people say they are likely to consider buying a second-hand appliance online, compared to just one in six (16%) four years ago. But only one in five (20%) would bother to take the simple safety step of registering that appliance with the manufacturer before installing it, the survey revealed.
Group Manager Kirsty McCreesh, the Prevention lead for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“As a service, we are called to multiple fires which involve various household appliances every week. Registering your domestic products online will mean that you are informed of any safety repairs or recalls quickly and therefore minimize the fire risks in your house. This year, with rising bills and more people considering buying and even installing pre-used products to reduce costs, registering your appliances is extremely important whether the products are pre-loved, old or brand new. It’s easy and free and will make your homes safer.”
Many have already bought a large domestic appliance second hand. As many as one in four (24%) have done so online or from a shop.
Simply visit the Register my Appliance Website to register your appliances. You can register appliances from over 60 brands and products which are at least 12 years old without proof of purchase.
